Siberian cats are large to medium in size. They have round bodies and are stocky in build. Siberian cats have tipped ears meaning that the ears have hair on the tips. This makes the ears look pointed. There is also hair inside the ear that extends outward. The hair serves to protect the middle and inner ear from damage. Siberian cats have wedge shaped heads and are quite muscular. They have large round eyes that are alert and aware. Siberian cat coats are average in length. Hair near the shoulder blades may be shorter than the rest of the body hair. Siberian cats have strong front and back leg, with large paws. Colors Siberian cat coats come in a variety of colors and patterns. From black to brown to white the Siberian cat runs the rainbow of colors. Siberian cats also have a wide range of eye colors. The colors gold, green, and blue are most associated with the breed. Temperament Siberian cats make loving and wonderful house pets. They love human companionship. Siberians can be very dog-like in terms of their temperament. They are loyal and enjoy playing games of fetch. They get along well with other house pets. Siberian cats are calm and gentle creatures. They have soft voices and rarely meow unless they have a request. Siberians are incredibly sensitive to human needs. They are smart and intuitive and can sense with their owners are feeling sad. Siberians are very athletic cats. They enjoy playing games with their owners. And can be very agile as they love climbing onto high perches. Care Siberian cats are easy to care for. They have water resistant coats that do not become soiled easily. However, Siberian coats do have seasonal shedding. In the summer, Siberian fur sheds much more rapidly. Increase brushing and combing to twice a week during the warm weather months. Siberians can get knots and tangles in their fur if it is not groomed. Bathing may be needed if the cat’s coat is excessively soiled. Be sure to gently remove all of the soap in the cat’s fur. Siberian cat fur can readily hold onto excess soap and buildup. Dry your Siberian’s fur thoroughly with a dryer on the low setting. Development A Siberian kitten may take up to five years to fully mature into adulthood. It may be noted that male Siberians gain additional muscle mass after age five. Siberian kittens that have been spayed or neutered can grow into weighty adults. An adult male Siberian may grow to 20 or 25 lbs. Siberian cats also make loving and attentive parents. They are very intuitive animals and are sensitive to the needs of their offspring. Health There are some reports that Siberian cat fur is less likely to trigger an allergic response in humans than other cat hair. Some say that the Siberian is great for individuals with cat allergies. Others say that there has been no reported decrease in the amount of allergy symptoms. Whatever the case, the breed itself is purportedly healthy and hardy. There are no known hereditary conditions associated with the breed. Remember…A Siberian kitten can make a great house pet.
