Looking for pet friendly motels and hotels for your cute kitten?
People travel with cats for all sorts of reasons. Taking pet friendly vacations, cat shows, moving, and companionship are just a few reasons. But, when thinking about taking a young kitten along in your trip, you need to think about the logistics of actually dealing with a small kitten.
I think that it’s best to wait until your little one is at least 6 months old and can handle the rigors of travel. By age six months, kittens have had their full series of vaccinations. Older kittens also have more established immune systems and eating patterns.
When it comes to travel, cats are not usually like dogs. Cats tend to dislike change and prefer subtle transitions on their own terms. Of course, all cats are individuals. But, don’t be surprised to find that when you’re in your motel room, your kitten will be hidden in a quiet nook or corner trying to get a bit of comfort.
Kitten-Proofing is Essential
Bringing your kitten to a hotel or motel is a lot like the first time you brought your kitten home. You have the right supplies and now you’re going to have to do some kitten-proofing. Motels and hotels can be full of hazards for kittens. So, be sure to get down to your kitten’s level and search the floor for any dangers. Rat poison, electrical cords, and open windows of high rise hotels are but a few dangers lurking for your kitten.
For your kittens safety (and your peace of mind), purchase a portable foldable cage or enclosure for your feline. Place your kitten in the enclosure when you are not in the room. You’re kitten will feel protected in the cage and you’ll feel at ease knowing that your kitten is limited in terms of the damage and trouble it can get into…which brings me to another point.
Always let the hotel/motel staff know that you have a kitten in the room. You don’t want to surprise housekeeping with a pile of kitten poop or litter in the floor to clean up. And you certainly don’t want your furry friend accidently escaping from the room while it’s being cleaned. That would definitely ruin your trip! So, keep things legit and look for pet friendly motels and hotels before you go on your journey.
Finding Pet Friendly Motels & Hotels
Most lodging facilities are pet friendly. However, never assume that your chosen hotel/motel is truly pet friendly. Always call ahead. Get pricing arrangements. Learn about your liability if your kitty does any damage to the facility in any way.
