Choosing the Best Kitten Toys

Using kitten toys is a great way to help your kitten blow off some steam and relax. Cat toys can redirect your kitten’s energy away from playing with your curtains or other valuables in your home. Toys also enable you to train your kitten in how to behave in your home and how to follow your lead.

Each and every cat is an individual. So, not all toys will be a big hit with all cats. Some kittens may prefer elaborate toys that light up. Others may want more sedate quiet catnip plant toys like a stuffed mouse. Let your kitten be the guide in choosing the right kinds of toys.

Why Do I Need Kitten Toys

Young kittens love to play and jump. Cat toys provide them an outlet for their high activity levels. Play offers kitten’s the ability to get physical exercise. Lots of exercise reduces the chance for your kitten to develop obesity later in life.

Playing with kitten toys also allows your kitten to escape periods of boredom. Bored kittens are more likely to destroy your furniture and home.

Playing with toys also gives your kitten a chance to bond with you. Your kitten gets to see you in a different light and in a fun role. Most kittens love to play with their owners and love human companionship.

Toys also enable you to teach your kitten commands. While most cats will not respond to commands as readily as dogs, felines can be trained to come when called and learn their names. Toys offer your kitten positive reinforcement for a job well done.

Kitten Toys to Avoid

Kittens seem to natural love toys which can be dangerous to them. Anything can be a toy to a kitten. Therefore, it is usually necessary to do a little kitten-proofing around the home. Here some common dangerous household objects that kittens may turn into toys:

  • Paper Clips

  • Electrical Outlets
  • Cords
  • Rubber Bands
  • Plastic Bags
You can alter already purchased toys by removing extra strings, plastic eyes, feathers, and other things that can be chewed and eaten. Make sure stuffed toys have no holes as the filling can be eaten by kittens.

Always monitor your kitten when they are playing with toys to see that they play in a safe manner. Remove toys from your kitten when it is unattended.

Best Type of Toys

The best types of cat toys are often the most basic. Empty toilet paper rolls provide great fun for kittens. Stuffed mice, plastic balls, foil balls, and paper bags for hide and seek are all toys kittens tend to love. Homemade toys save you money.

Store bought toys can also provide enjoyment. They tend to have more “bells and whistles” they homemade toys. You can find toys that are filled with catnip, moveable toys, and even remote toys. I find that the best toys are the most simplistic. It really doesn’t take much time or cost much to entertain kittens.

Remember…kitten toys don’t have to be expensive. Homemade toys are just as fun for kittens as store bought.
