Javanese Kittens

Javanese kittens are intelligent and curious. Learn more about this extroverted and talkative breed.

History

The Javanese kitten is very similar to the Balinese kitten. In fact, the Balinese is a distinct from the Javanese in terms of color points. The Javanese came about from the mating of short-haired and long-haired oriental breeds of cats.

The Javanese and Balinese have a close association. The Javanese got its name from the Island of Java, which is near Bali, the country of origin for the Balinese cat.

Physical Appearance

Javanese cats’ physical appearance is the epitome of grace and elegance. Javanese have slender long necks and lengthy bodies. Their long legs and almond shaped eyes are quite distinctive. Javanese cats have a fine bone structure. They are known for their prominent pointed ears and wedge shaped heads.

Javanese cats have average builds with muscular bodies, despite appearing delicate in form. They have long tails that flare out at the tip. Javanese cats also have small dainty paws.

Colors

Javanese cats come in a variety of colors. However, not all colors are accepted by all associations. Blue, black, chocolate, red, cream, tortie, lynx, tabby, and torbie points are noted in Javanese cats. Javanese cats have mesmerizing blue eyes.

Temperament

Javanese cats are vocal creatures. However, they are less vocal than their Siamese counterparts. They are active smart and intelligent cats. Javanese love human companionship and can get lonely without contact with other humans and animals. It may be necessary to get two Javanese cats to help keep each other company. Javanese cats love to play games with their owners and enjoy games of fetch.

Some people attribute the Javanese personality to its color points. It is said that the Javanese with red points are very calm and relaxed in terms of temperament and that tortie point Javanese cats are more strong-willed and out-going.

Development

It may take Javanese kittens quite some time to develop into their adult colors and fur length. Some kittens may take only 5 months to mature into their coats. Others may take up to 8 or 9 months to fully develop.

Care

Training kittens early to tolerate grooming and touch is essential. Early training makes grooming less traumatic for kittens are they grow. Caring for Javanese cats is relatively easy. Javanese fur does not tangle very easily and can be simply brushed weekly. The tail may need a bit of combing. Bathing may be required if the cat’s fur is particularly soiled. Javanese nails should be trimmed regularly.

Health

The Javanese are an overall healthy breed. However, they are susceptible to some common medical conditions that affect other oriental breeds such as the Siamese and Balinese. Crossed eyes, kinked tails, and weak rear legs are all common issues affecting the Javanese.

Remember…Javanese kittens need lots of companionship!
