Havana Brown Kittens

History
The Havana Brown kitten is a member of a hybrid breed. Siamese cats with eye colors other than blue were rejected from competing in competitions. Early Havana Browns were outcrossed with Siamese cats. They gained championship status in the Cat Fanciers’ Association in the 1960’s. Havana Browns are also mated with other Havana Browns, Siamese, or other solid color oriental cats to increase diversity in the breed.
Physical Appearance
Havana Browns grow to be medium in size and build. They have toned and muscular builds and can be surprisingly heavy when picked up. Havana Browns tend to have short to medium length fur. They also have petite paws and pointed-tipped tails.
Havana Browns are also display brown colored whiskers as a standard for the breed. Havana Brown fur is smooth and glossy.
Havana Browns have large oval shaped eyes. Male Havana Browns can grow to about 10 lbs. Havana Brown cat have back legs that are a bit longer than their front legs.
Colors
Havana Browns are known for their chocolate to mahogany brown glossy coats. Havana’s eye color only comes in the color green. And a deep vibrant green is preferred in the breed. Paw pads and nose leather is typically rosy pink in this breed.
Temperament
Havana Brown’s can be shy yet affectionate cats. They have quiet gentle voices. And they are best with single owner homes. However, Havana Browns are great family pets and get along well with dogs and other house pets.
Havana Browns listen to direction quite well and are very smart animals. They are active and lively cats. However, they do not have the energy level of a Burmese or other high energy cat.
Care
Havana Brown fur is easy to care for. Minimal grooming is required to keep the coat glossy and healthy. Simply coat the fur once or twice weekly. You can also use your hands to smooth down the coat. Hair loss and shedding is not a major issue with Havana Browns. Because they have few guard hairs and have a single coat the Havana Browns shed very little.
Teaching kittens early in life to tolerate grooming is an important part of their care. Get kittens use to getting their nails trimmed by gently handling their paws. If kittens are to be in cat shows later on in their lives, teach them to tolerate human touch and attention.
Development
It may take up to two years for Havana Brown kittens to develop their deep brown coats. As kittens, they may have ghost tabby markings. Typically, Havana Brown queens make excellent and attentive parents. There are usually about 2 to 4 kittens in each litter.
Health
Havana Browns are overall healthy cats. They have few hereditary related health problems.
Remember…Havana Brown kittens are generally well-behaved kittens. Yet, training is still crucial in teaching them the rule of a household.
